Politics

The week has been marked by institutional activity, with the February municipal plenary session approving several measures in the social, urban planning and sports fields. Key decisions included Sant Just’s accession to the Baix Llobregat Homelessness Board, the appointment of Ivonne Vilar as the new Justice of the Peace, and the initial approval of a partial amendment to the Metropolitan Master Plan (PGM) to regulate housing density and ground-floor uses in the historic center. Subsidies for local athletes and dance schools were also approved, along with motions on the new regional financing model and the inclusion of linguistic criteria in public procurement, while a proposal for a community-based security model was rejected. The week also featured prior coverage of the plenary agenda and an interview with CUP spokesperson Lluc Tost, who analyzed local political developments.

Culture

The cultural scene was highlighted by a double literary achievement for Sant Just Desvern, with writers Irene Pujadas and Silvana Vogt winning the 2026 Finestres Narrative Awards. Other initiatives included the launch of the Ateneu Short Story Competition, the presentation of Ara soc un llac by Natàlia Cerezo, and the municipality’s participation in the BCN Sports Film Festival. Choral music also took center stage with the 40th Musicoral, bringing together ensembles from across the region. In addition, the artists’ and artisans’ collective Meraki renewed its board to strengthen professionalization and visibility, and a new edition of the Esmorzar de Forquilla event was announced, combining gastronomy and electronic music. In the performing arts, the Mare Meva theatre company will premiere Això no és un musical as part of the Cap Butaca Buida initiative, a fresh and dynamic episodic production.

Society

In the social sphere, Sant Just will host the exhibition ‘Edatisme zero’, aimed at raising awareness about age discrimination. The agenda also included educational activities such as Abdoulaye Fall’s conference on Sub-Saharan migration and an AUGGE session on nutrition myths, designed to promote informed debate. The week was also marked by the death of Joan Gallart, a resident closely linked to the town’s cultural and civic life, with decades of involvement in organizations such as the Ateneu, Cor Lo Pom, SEAS and the local FC Barcelona supporters’ club.

Environment

Sant Just continues to advance in sustainability, reaching a record level of municipal solar energy production in 2025, with nearly 388,000 kWh generated and new installations across public facilities. The municipality also promoted the free workshops of the (RE)PARA’T program, focused on repairing and reusing everyday items to reduce waste, as well as a discount system of up to 14% on the waste management tax for regular use of recycling centers. These measures reinforce the local commitment to the circular economy and sustainable habits.

Urban planning and facilities

The week also saw the start of construction of the new neighborhood facility in Plana Padrosa – Bellsoleig, to be named after Maria Treserra, aimed at strengthening community cohesion. At the same time, the renovation of playgrounds in Maragall Park and Sant Pastor Square has been promoted through direct participation of children, while public sports facilities have been improved with the installation of new volleyball posts in Plana Padrosa Park. These actions seek to enhance public spaces and encourage community life.
