Urban planning
Sant Just Desvern has added a new landmark with the installation of the sculpture One at the B-23 roundabout, one of the municipality’s main gateways. Created by local artists Toni and Paula Fàbregas and selected through a participatory process, the artwork represents the bell from the town’s coat of arms and strengthens local identity with a large-scale, highly visible piece.
Sport
Two key developments marked the week. On the one hand, the Mitja Desvern half marathon, scheduled for 25 April, remains subject to restrictions in Collserola Park, with a final decision expected before 20 February, which could lead to a postponement until autumn or cancellation. On the other hand, the 'Sant Just Esport' project was presented, setting out a new shared sports model based on values, inclusion and quality, involving sports clubs, public authorities and local stakeholders.
Mobility
Throughout 2026, the City Council continues its 30-minute free parking campaign aimed at boosting local commerce. Shops distribute tickets that allow free parking in blue zones and at the Mil·lenari car park, facilitating local shopping and urban mobility.
Politics
Political news this week centered on an interview with Isabel Darder, spokesperson for PSC Sant Just, on Ràdio Desvern. Darder reviewed the outcomes of the January council meeting, focusing on a budget credit modification that enables increased funding for culture, facilities and services, as well as the update of elected officials’ remuneration in line with the rise in public sector pay approved by the national government. The interview also addressed changes to a by law regulating prepared food outlets and several motions related to nightlife, children’s spaces and international solidarity.
Waste management
Residents can now apply for key fobs to open smart waste containers via the municipal website. Linked to each household, these devices function like cards and provide access to organic and residual waste containers. In addition, the lesmevestargetes platform centralizes the management of cards, key fobs and the bitPAYT app.
Education
Schools in Sant Just are holding open days ahead of the 2026–2027 academic year, showcasing a locally rooted education system with strong academic results. At the same time, secondary school students are taking part in a new edition of the Connecta program enabling 12 students to combine classroom learning with work placements in local businesses. The opening of submissions for the 38th Catalan Prose and Poetry Contest has also been announced.
Youth
The International Mobility Service has resumed activity with new European youth exchanges, including Erasmus+ projects and an international exchange planned for Easter in Iceland, aimed at young people interested in gaining educational experiences abroad.
Culture
Culture featured prominently this week with the nomination of local authors Irene Pujadas and Silvana Vogt for the 2026 Finestres Narrative Awards. In addition, the Cal Llibreter bookshop has scheduled a February full of literary activities, and AUGGE hosted a lecture on the world of dreams.
Society
Community life has been highly active, with new volunteering initiatives such as training for En Bici Sense Edat, an analysis of the labor market confirming the dominance of the service sector and the low presence of women in construction, and the strong involvement of parent associations (AFA) in preparations for Carnival 2026. The Canigó, Madre Sacramento and Montseny schools stand out for family engagement, generational renewal and a commitment to parades with educational, theatrical and community-based content.
Municipal company
The Extraordinary Board Meeting of Promunsa has appointed Àngels Salas as the new managing director of the municipal company, replacing Hilda González. Salas brings extensive experience in public management and executive leadership and will oversee the technical and operational management of the company responsible for public housing and municipal services.
Tourism
The Baix Llobregat region has been recognized as a Smart Tourist Destination at FITUR 2026, a distinction that reinforces the county’s commitment to an innovative, sustainable and accessible tourism model, based on governance, technology and quality of life.
