Environment
This week, it was recalled that 31 January 2026 is the deadline to apply for a reduction in the fixed portion of the waste tax in Sant Just Desvern. This tax, which covers the costs of waste collection and transport, has a basic annual fee of 96 euros, lower than last year’s. Households that meet the income requirements can apply for 50% or 95% discounts, depending on family income and the number of people registered at the address. The bill can be paid quarterly if it is set up for direct debit, and the reduction must be renewed every year, except for retired people and pensioners. Procedures must be completed through the ORGT, either in person or by phone.
Culture
Sant Just has experienced a very intense week in cultural terms. Particularly noteworthy are the nominations of Irene Pujadas and Silvana Vogt for the Premis Finestres de narrativa, with finalist works in Catalan and Spanish. The Ateneu has hosted multiple activities: Àuria Franch’s concert as part of the La Birce series, the children’s screening ‘Zog i els doctors voladors’ within the CineXic program, a new session of the Club de novel·la gràfica focused on ‘Palestina’ by Joe Sacco, and a concert by the Trio Oxes within the Estones de Clàssica cycle. The exhibition ‘Paisatges imaginats’ by Àngel Martínez has also opened at the Celler de Can Ginestar, with guided tours scheduled, and the AUGGE conference on Jonathan Swift and political satire, led by Pere Gifra, has taken place. In addition, the bookshop Cal Llibreter is celebrating its tenth anniversary with an open party and a poetry recital by Jaume C. Pons Alorda, launching a year of special activities.
Society
Sant Just has joined the solidarity lighting of towers, watchtowers and talayots to denounce the humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean, including a manifesto reading and a collective singing event. The celebration of the Festa de les Roses at Parc de Torreblanca has also been announced, as part of the Cicle d’activitats als parcs metropolitans, featuring workshops, a popular barbecue, guided tours and free family activities. A discussion has been organized at the Ateneu about the En Bici Sense Edat project, focusing on combating loneliness among older people and the importance of inclusive mobility. Two local residents have shared their solidarity experience in Cuba with the Brigada dels Països Catalans, where they took part in educational and cooperation initiatives. In addition, worrying data have been made public regarding gender-based violence, with 65 victims registered in Sant Just during the third quarter of 2025 and a high percentage of women who chose not to testify against their aggressors. It is also worth highlighting that Tres Tombs will be celebrated in Sant Just on 25 January.
Sports and youth
The Casal de Joves is offering an introductory trapeze intensive course at Sala Utopia, aimed at young people up to forty years old. The activity provides a practical introduction to this aerial discipline, with basic exercises and safety measures.
Education
The Centre Bristol is offering a children’s activity in English, ‘Fun on the farm’, where children can learn vocabulary, animal sounds and practice yoga through play, encouraging learning in a fun and participatory environment.
Politics
The interview with Junts Sant Just spokesperson Ramon Figuerola focused on current local political issues, particularly the waste tax, which he described as poorly designed from the outset. Figuerola criticized errors in the container reading system and regretted that the opposition’s warnings had not been heeded.
Economy
The latest data from Idescat place Sant Just at a GDP of 1.132 billion euros and a GDP per capita of 54,820 euros, well above the Catalan average. The municipality also stands out for a 23.5% increase in the employed population. At county level, Baix Llobregat is consolidating its position as the second most economically significant county in Catalonia, with a GDP of 36.12 billion euros and the highest year-on-year growth in the metropolitan area.
