Sant Just Desvern's Festa Major is getting ready with a wide-ranging program of activities. Family-friendly events will include cinema, theater, a water slide, a musical bingo and sports activities for children. The traditional Blues vs. Yellows competition will also return, with seven scoring events, including the Escalabirres, GeoSEAS, El Gran Joc de Sant Just and the football tournaments. This year's festival will also introduce new features, such as the Festival Coordination Committee, created to promote a more participatory and inclusive celebration, and a competition to create the town's new signature drink. GeoSEAS will once again offer a digital treasure hunt through the streets of Sant Just, with eleven hidden boxes to be found between 27 July and 1 August. Tickets are now on sale for the Festa Major Dinner, which will offer different menus adapted to a variety of dietary requirements. A new edition of the Balcony Decoration Contest has also been announced, while El Cub will once again host its electronic music festival in the gardens of Can Ginestar.
Finally, local bookseller Arnau Cònsul has proposed creating a historical fiction festival in Sant Just Desvern, while the Centre d'Estudis Santjustencs has introduced a new literary walk for the Festa Major.
Society
The week also brought several stories related to the municipality and the wider region. The Sant Feliu de Llobregat judicial district, which includes Sant Just Desvern, recorded 116 reports of gender-based violence during the first quarter of 2026, while the Baix Llobregat as a whole saw a slight decrease in cases. Meanwhile, the municipal council approved 17 May and 6 August as Sant Just Desvern's two local public holidays for 2027. The Town Council has also launched a new online photo archive, allowing residents to view and download images from local events and activities. At the metropolitan level, the AMB 15+15 Dialogues brought together institutional representatives and experts to discuss future challenges such as housing, mobility, climate change and urban development.
Territory
Sant Just Desvern continues to move forward with several urban transformation and mobility projects. This week saw the completion of the renovation of the Carrer de l'Església stairway, including the underground installation of all overhead utility cables and the renewal of local infrastructure. The municipality has also approved a new Local Road Safety Plan, which will guide mobility policies until 2028. At the same time, the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) approved new projects to promote the energy transition, secure additional water resources for future droughts, protect metropolitan green spaces, expand public housing and support social initiatives.
Economy
Economic figures for the second quarter of 2026 confirm Sant Just Desvern's strong performance. The municipality now has 746 businesses, a 3.9% increase compared with a year ago, and remains one of the few municipalities in Baix Llobregat with more businesses than it had in 2008.
Tourism
Sant Just Desvern also featured this week in the Destination Barcelona Tourist Survey. The study shows that most visitors are international tourists, with an average expenditure of more than €860 per person and an overall rating of 8.4 out of 10 for their stay in Baix Llobregat.
Health
This week, the Catalan Government reminded residents of the main measures to prevent mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, Zika, chikungunya and West Nile fever. As mosquito activity reaches its seasonal peak, people are advised to eliminate standing water, use insect repellent, protect themselves against bites and keep outdoor areas in good condition to reduce the risk of transmission.
