Culture

This week, cultural activity in Sant Just Desvern has been shaped by the Sant Jordi program and a wide range of events. The Jardins de Can Ginestar will host a day of book and rose stalls, workshops and family activities on April 19, while the Sant Jordi correfoc will take to the streets with the participation of several traditional fire-run groups. At the same time, the Ateneu has scheduled events such as the documentary “Sota les banderes, el Sol”, followed by a discussion on historical memory and human rights, as well as a family screening of CineXic with “La Mama Muu torna a casa”. Also noteworthy is the new program from the Xarxa d’Equipaments Culturals (XEC), featuring cycles on artificial intelligence, philosophy, astronomy and geopolitics, alongside gastronomic and heritage-related activities.

In the performing arts, Companyia Quart Passadís returns with the musical “Dins el Bosc”, with two performances, while the town also prepares for the award ceremony of the 38th Catalan Prose and Poetry Competition, which will include live musical performances. In addition, local shops are displaying the winning poems from the competition in their shop windows, turning the streets into a literary route that will expand with the 2026 entries.

Also of note is a talk on Kurdistan featuring human rights defender Jenkidar Shikhdmmar, as part of the Cities Defending Human Rights program, as well as the Cinebaix Film Series focused on Latin American and Caribbean cinema, with a selection of socially and politically engaged films.

Sports

In sports, the week has been marked by a public debate on the future of local football, organized by La Vall de Verç, addressing the coexistence or possible merger between Atlètic Sant Just and CF Sant Just, as well as differences in management models and the use of the municipal pitch. At the same time, the Ateneu de Sant Just is organizing a social three-cushion billiards tournament, open to local participants and running until the end of May, with finals scheduled during the Ateneu’s Festa Major.

Society

On the social front, the City Council is promoting a participatory process at Parc de la Plana Padrosa, allowing residents to decide on new playground equipment, thereby strengthening citizen involvement in public space planning. Also noteworthy is the recognition of local resident Pau Ortí Amorós as the most active user of the AMBici bike-sharing service, highlighting the promotion of sustainable mobility at the metropolitan level. Demographic data also show that Sant Just maintains a relatively high birth rate within the region, although it follows the general downward trend, with fewer births and a delay in motherhood.

Economy

From an economic perspective, the municipality continues to show a positive employment trend, with 480 unemployed people and an unemployment rate of 4.9%, one of the lowest in Baix Llobregat, and with both monthly and year-on-year declines. In addition, a professional networking event is being promoted in Sant Feliu to foster connections and business opportunities among companies and entrepreneurs in the area.

Politics

In politics, recent interviews following the municipal plenary session have highlighted the debate over the management of public services. Mayor Joan Basagañas has defended price adjustments and mixed management models, while Just Fosalva has stressed the difficulty of fully municipalizing services and the need to adapt them to current economic and administrative realities.
