The week was marked by several municipal initiatives and local news. Sant Just expanded its network of climate shelters by adding Mil·lenari Park and La Vagoneta to help protect residents during periods of extreme heat. The municipality also reported a power outage that caused electricity cuts in several parts of the town and across other municipalities in the metropolitan area. The City Council opened a recruitment process to hire two community facilitators as part of a project supporting older people, with the aim of combating unwanted loneliness and encouraging community participation. In addition, Summerfest will continue this weekend with a Holi Fest at Mas Lluí, aimed especially at young people. Finally, the City Council joined a solidarity campaign led by the Catalan Fund for Development Cooperation to raise funds for the victims of the Venezuela earthquake.
Sports
Sport was dominated by the Tour de France, which will pass through Sant Just this Sunday. During the week, the visit of former world champion Alejandro Valverde was announced, and he took part in an official event and met with fans. The activities planned for the Tour Festival were also unveiled, including cycling circuits, inflatables, live music, food trucks, sports exhibitions, and the passage of both the Tour Caravan and the cyclists. Councillor David Magallón explained the municipality's preparations for the event, while the traffic and public transport disruptions caused by the race were also made public. Meanwhile, the Youth Centre organized a pickleball session to introduce the sport to young people aged 12 to 18.
Culture
The Network of Cultural Facilities (XEC) presented its summer program, featuring cooking workshops, history, yoga, virtual reality, astronomy and artistic activities across the municipality's cultural venues. The exhibition "Formelandia", by photographer Francesc Fàbregas, also opened at Can Ginestar Cellar, showcasing around forty black-and-white photographs that visually connect Formentera and Iceland. In addition, a workshop on salted cod, anchovies and other cured fish products, led by Àlex Tubella, was announced, offering participants the chance to discover traditional preservation techniques and their culinary uses.
Education
Education was particularly active this week. Jesús Margarit announced that he is stepping down as principal of Sant Just Secondary School after sixteen years in the role, although he will continue teaching at the school. The application period has also opened for the 2026–2027 Educational Guides, aimed at schools, families and students of all educational stages. Finally, the Local Catalan Language Service has opened registration for a free beginner's intensive Catalan course for people wishing to start learning the language.
Solidarity
Sant Just has launched a participatory process allowing residents to decide which international cooperation projects will receive municipal funding. Citizens will be able to choose three initiatives from six proposals covering areas such as health, education, water, equality and inclusion, all of which will receive financial support from the City Council.
Housing
The City Council has launched a public consultation to prepare the 2027–2032 Local Housing Plan. The survey will gather residents' opinions to help shape future municipal housing policies on access to housing, building renovation and the local housing stock.
Economy
This week also saw the opening of a new application period for Next Generation grants aimed at improving the energy efficiency of residential buildings, helping homeowners renovate their properties and reduce energy consumption.
Mobility
Mobility was one of the week's main topics. Alongside the traffic disruptions caused by the Tour de France, the Baix Llobregat Regional Observatory published new data on the region's vehicle fleet, showing that Sant Just has the highest proportion of motorcycles in the county and is among the municipalities with the highest share of ECO-labeled vehicles, reflecting a gradual shift towards more sustainable mobility. The debate surrounding the future Low Emission Zone (LEZ) also continued, with PSC spokesperson Isabel Darder explaining in an interview that the measure is expected to affect approximately 1% of the municipality's vehicles.
