Local Politics

The Municipal Council held its November plenary session, approving the 2026 municipal budget, adjustments to the Social Fund, and a modification to the Metropolitan General Plan affecting the Parador and Carrer Major. The session also endorsed ERC’s proposals to ensure free school meals and extracurricular activities, and to promote a dignified public transport model, which received unanimous support. Motions from the CUP, related to incidents during the Autumn Festivities, and from Vox, regarding the 25N, were rejected. The council additionally read the official statements for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and for World Children’s Day, and acknowledged the resignation of councillor Anna Vilanova.

Housing

The Government of Catalonia completed the purchase of 118 apartments in Mas Lluí as part of a major acquisition of over a thousand InmoCaixa homes across the country. These flats will now be incorporated into the public affordable rental system, ensuring that current tenants keep their contracts under the same conditions. The council welcomed the move, highlighting its importance in maintaining social balance and preventing pressure on local rental prices.

Social Policy

Sant Just has formally approved its Local Social Inclusion Plan 2024–2027, a strategic roadmap designed to reduce inequalities and reinforce community cohesion. The plan identifies six central challenges—housing, economic inequality, education, health and well-being, community participation, and the prevention of violence—and sets five priority areas of action. A mixed technical commission will be responsible for monitoring the plan until 2027.

Community & Solidarity

This week brings several solidarity-focused initiatives. Sant Just Solidari is celebrating its 30th anniversary with an open community event on November 30. The Casal Popular La Sala is running a school-supply collection for Cuba, gathering essential classroom materials to support teachers and students. Meanwhile, Càritas Sant Just is calling for donations in this year’s Gran Recapte, as demand for support has increased considerably.

Culture

Can Ginestar is opening the exhibition “L’ànima dels materials” by artist Charo Gálvez, featuring works that highlight the expressive potential of raw materials such as leather, rubber, felt, slate, and graphite. The exhibition also includes a photographic series based on “non-doors” and “non-windows”. Cultural activity continues with an AUGGE lecture on the Cathars, offering a historical exploration of medieval Europe, and the announcement of “L’última quinta”, a short film project set in Sant Just during the final days of the Spanish Civil War. The municipality also hosts “Veus de la transició”, a session that revisits local experiences from the 1970s democratic transition.

Youth & Urban Culture

The Casal de Joves welcomes the fifth edition of “Flow is the Key”, a two-day festival featuring dance battles, workshops, and performances across hip-hop, popping, and house styles. The event continues to position Sant Just as a reference point for young urban culture.

Public Events

Sant Just will officially switch on the Christmas lights on November 28 at Plaça Iulia Quieta. The festive afternoon includes choir performances, family activities, a solidarity games space, a photocall, hot chocolate, and the children’s show “Els Robobops.” Residents are encouraged to decorate their homes and join the #il·luminemSantJust initiative.

Environment

As part of the European Week for Waste Reduction, Sant Just is hosting an artistic installation titled “Cemetery of Small Appliances”, talks on what happens after waste reaches the container, and a school competition for collecting electronic waste, all aimed at raising awareness about responsible recycling.

Education

The town celebrates the Day of the Educating City on November 30 with family-friendly workshops, games and an outdoor musical performance by La Xaxi Band. In parallel, the Escola Canigó has presented its educational model, which combines long-standing pedagogical values with innovative programmes in coexistence, digital literacy, arts and languages.

Sports

Preparations are under way for the 50th anniversary of the Cursa de Karts de Coixinets, scheduled for 2027. Organisers are calling for volunteers, former participants and supporters to join the anniversary commission. In addition, a women’s self-defence workshop is being held this week, offering practical safety techniques for participants aged 12 and up.
