Politics
Political activity this week was dominated by the May municipal council meeting, which gave initial approval to the rules governing the allocation of subsidized rental housing, amendments to the activities ordinance, regulations for the use of socio-cultural facilities, and the municipality’s local holidays for 2027. Motions concerning the Dependency Law and support for public education were also approved.
Ahead of the council meeting, the main items on the agenda were presented, including subsidised housing, legal appeals related to Carretera Reial, and proposed changes to the activities ordinance.
The political agenda also featured interviews with CUP spokesperson Lluc Tost and People’s Party (PP) spokesperson Enrique Salvadores. Tost called for greater transparency in municipal affairs and questioned aspects of the anti-harassment protocol recently approved by the council. Salvadores, meanwhile, advocated for the construction of a new local police station and stricter regulations for electric scooters.
Mobility
Mobility was another major topic during the week. Authorities announced that the X30 bus line will strengthen connections between Sant Just and Sant Feliu through increased capacity, new articulated buses and a more direct link to the railway station.
Meanwhile, telecommunications infrastructure works began in the Bellavista area of Sant Joan Despí, causing traffic disruptions at the roundabout connecting Carretera Reial and Avinguda Indústria for approximately two weeks.
Health
The Catalan Department of Health has launched a new cervical cancer prevention program in Sant Just. Women aged 30 to 65 will receive a text message inviting them to collect a self-sampling kit from local pharmacies to carry out a human papillomavirus (HPV) test at home. The initiative forms part of the early detection program coordinated by the Catalan Institute of Oncology.
Community
The Martin Luther King Scout and Guide Group has announced an open day on 6 June at the Youth Centre, featuring activities aimed at attracting new participants aged between 5 and 18.
The week was also marked by the death of Teresa Faneca Espinós, a long-standing member of the Ateneu de Sant Just, where she led the Arteneu section for many years and was also actively involved with SEAS. Faneca also took part in Santjustenques, a radio project produced by Ràdio Desvern.
Culture
Cultural activity was particularly busy this week. The Can Ginestar Gardens hosted the opening of the photography exhibition “Women of Sant Just”, showcasing the diversity of women living in the municipality.
The Joan Margarit Library and the Jugatecambiental program also organized a new storytelling session entitled “Stories in the Forest”, featuring woodland animals as its main characters.
AUGGE also announced a lecture by former mayor Josep Perpinyà examining the causes behind rising housing prices in Catalonia.
In the coming days, the Centre d’Estudis Santjustencs will host the conference “The Sarrià Train Accident of February 1939: A Censored Tragedy”, while the Coral Harmonia choir will perform its spring concert at the Vitalia Residence.
In addition, Sant Just will host its traditional Gegants gathering next week, one of the highlights of the local cultural calendar.
Business
In the commercial sector, the historic rotisserie Cuina Miracle has begun a new chapter under the name La Cuineta. The business is now managed by former employees who aim to preserve the values, identity and culinary tradition that have defined the establishment for more than three decades.
