This week, cultural life in Sant Just Desvern has been especially active. The Ateneu presented its winter program for the first quarter of 2026, combining established cycles with new formats such as the Festivalet Folk and the arrival of classical ballet with The Nutcracker, which sold out thanks to recent stage renovations. The Docs del Mes film series featured ‘Estimada Flor’, followed by a discussion, while AUGGE hosted a lecture on Toulouse-Lautrec and Parisian nightlife. Registrations also opened for the Municipal Facilities Network, offering a wide range of cultural workshops and exhibitions. A new adult theater course has also started at the Ateneu.
Education
The City Council strengthened its commitment to public education through the Educating City model, promoting local schools and their educational projects. The Local Pact against Educational Segregation was also reinforced. Meanwhile, the Local Catalan Language Service began its second term with full enrollment, focusing on oral communication to encourage social integration.
Children
Sant Just Desvern renewed its status as a Child-Friendly City recognized by UNICEF, confirming its commitment to children's rights and wellbeing.
Economy
The municipality consolidated its economic strength within the region, with a per capita turnover of €286,630 and nearly €6 billion in business volume, ranking sixth in the county.
Politics
In an interview, PSC spokesperson Isabel Darder highlighted the importance of local politics and explained changes to the new waste tax, including postponing the variable fee until reliable data is available.
Environment
The new waste tax system is now in force, featuring a reduced fixed fee, a variable part based on recycling habits, and discounts for low-income households and composting users.
Health & wellbeing
The cognitive stimulation workshop for seniors returned to La Vagoneta, using board games to prevent cognitive decline and fight unwanted loneliness.
Tourism
The Baix Llobregat Tourism Consortium launched Plans Silver, promoting slow, high-quality tourism with cultural, gastronomic and nature-based experiences.
Traditions
Sant Just Desvern celebrated the 74th Three Kings Parade, bringing back the traditional balcony reception at City Hall with strong community participation.
